David Bowie released his genre-defining classic album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars in June 1972. It was during this period that Bowie created the character Ziggy Stardust, who would become the template for countless acts over the next 40 years.

The photo was legendarily used as the backdrop for the 2014 Brits awards. Bowie was unable to attend to receive the best male solo artist award, he instead sent supermodel and friend Kate Moss to accept. Moss arrived wearing a Ziggy Stardust costume, the red playsuit printed with white rabbits, called the “Woodland Creatures” as worn by Bowie on stage in 1972 and iconically captured by Mick Rock in this stunning photograph offered here for the first time ever.

Mick Rock collaborated with David between 1972 and 1973, as the singer’s exclusive photographer and videographer. A key member in the glam scene helped coin Mick’s nickname as the “Man who shot the 70’s”. It was during this period that Mick produced the most iconic visual photos of David Bowie, Including this performance shot, “ Taken during the last ever Bowie/Ziggy tour at The Gaumont Theatre, Worcester, UK June 1973. He was a fabulous, riveting performer. He was off to the future, and he wasn’t looking back!” Mick Rock
